Metro Weekly is a Washington, DC-based publication serving the LGBT community with a focus on news, entertainment, arts, culture, nightlife, and politics. It was established in 1994 and is one of the district’s longest-running LGBT magazines, providing a core resource for gay readers in the region. The print edition reaches more than 55,000 readers each Thursday and is distributed at over 500 free locations across DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. It complements its magazine with MetroWeekly.com, which offers breaking news and extended content such as local calendars and directories for online readers. In November 2020, Metro Weekly announced the hire of Gina Ortiz Jones, marking a notable personnel development for the publication.
