The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) is a public-safety organization based in East Melbourne, Victoria, that provides fire and rescue services for the Melbourne metropolitan area. It covers more than 1,000 square kilometres and protects nearly four million residents, workers, and visitors, as well as billions of dollars in assets and infrastructure, around the clock. MFB firefighters are the first responders to certain medical emergencies under the Emergency Medical Response First Responder program, a capability described as a first in Australia. It consistently reports fast emergency response times and a high rate of fire containment to the room of origin. The organization serves a public-safety market in Melbourne and surrounding area, with a workforce drawn from hundreds of employees; a 2017 development noted that it released drone footage of a blaze.
