The Michigan AFL-CIO serves as the state federation of labor for Michigan, representing more than one million active and retired members across 59 unions. Based in Lansing, Michigan, it operates within the public policy arena as part of the AFL-CIO, the national federation that unites workers from diverse backgrounds. Its work centers on building a broad labor movement by helping workers join and form unions, supporting bargaining to improve living conditions, and amplifying the voice of working families in government and in the global economy.

In August 2025, the organization announced the appointment of Chad Cyrowski as communications director, signaling ongoing evolution of its communications function for Michigan's labor movement. By coordinating with member unions and engaging in policy advocacy, the Michigan AFL-CIO seeks to advance economic justice in the workplace and social justice for communities across the state.
