Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric distribution utility based in Lexington, South Carolina. For more than 80 years, it has worked to bring power to rural areas and has expanded its offerings to include fiber optic internet and smart grid technology. The cooperative serves more than 47,000 member-owners across Lexington, Richland, Newberry, Saluda and Aiken counties, and, together with other South Carolina cooperatives, delivers electricity to about 500,000 people across roughly 70 percent of the state. It operates within the utilities sector under a member-governed model focused on community service. In May 2022, the organization partnered with the Clean Energy Technology program at The Center to collaborate on energy technology initiatives.
