The Middle East Forum is a Philadelphia-based think tank founded in 1994 by Daniel Pipes that aims to advance American interests in the Middle East while safeguarding Western values from regional threats. In its Middle East program, the organization pursues strategies to defeat radical Islam, advocate Palestinian acceptance of Israel, contain Iran, and respond to advancing regional instability. It presents itself as providing strategic counsel rather than advocacy. Domestically, MEF emphasizes concerns about lawful Islamism, defends the freedoms of anti-Islamist authors, activists, and publishers, and supports efforts to improve Middle East studies. The forum notes that it does not issue routine denunciations or praise, and it does not take positions itself but leaves those to its staff and fellows. In March 2026, it announced the appointment of Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi as director of its new Syria office.
