The Midwestern Higher Education Compact coordinates collaboration among leaders from twelve Midwest states to strengthen postsecondary education, advance student success, and support regional economic vitality. Through its programs and initiatives, it delivers time- and cost-savings for member states and students while conducting research that supports workforce readiness and improves the quality, accessibility, and affordability of higher education. It convenes system leaders and subject experts to share knowledge and develop collaborative solutions. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MHEC works with higher education system leaders, state policymakers, legislators, and institutional leaders across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, and is governed by a 60-member commission with representation from each state. A notable recent development is its April 2026 partnership with SAS Institute, including renewal of its cooperative agreement and extension of its agreement with Resultant.
