The Ministero della Difesa is Italy's government department responsible for national defense, coordinating the armed forces and related policy and capability planning. Headquartered in Rome, in the Lazio region, it operates as a large government agency within the public administration. Its activities span defense strategy, armaments, and training and other capability-building initiatives across the country’s military services. In 2026 the ministry participated in Cansec 2026, a defense trade show in Ottawa, led by the National Director of Armaments. That year also included publicized modernization efforts, including a contract to upgrade the Italian Army's virtual training environment with BAE Systems OneArc.
