Minnkota Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit electric generation and transmission cooperative based in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Formed in 1940, it supplies wholesale electric energy to 11 member-owner distribution cooperatives in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota, serving roughly 150,000 consumer accounts across a 34,500-square-mile area. The cooperative's generation portfolio centers on the Milton R. Young Station near Center, North Dakota, a lignite coal-fired plant, with additional power from three North Dakota wind farms and hydroelectricity from the Garrison Dam.
