MIX NYC promotes, produces, and preserves experimental media rooted in the lives, politics, and experiences of queer-identified individuals. As the longest-running queer experimental film festival in New York, MIX has been at the forefront of challenging mainstream notions of gender, sexuality, and traditional film forms since its founding in 1987 by Jim Hubbard and Sarah Schulman. Beyond our annual festival, we host local community screenings, monthly events, and national tours, bringing queer experimental media to diverse audiences across the city and beyond. We proudly collaborate with various community-based media organizations and cultural institutions to expand access to queer experimental media. Additionally, MIX NYC continues to support new generations of queer artists through workshops, educational programs, and mentorship opportunities, empowering LGBTQ+ youth to explore digital media production and storytelling. At MIX NYC, we are committed to amplifying the voices of queer experimental artists and fostering a community built on creativity, inclusivity, and activism.
