Monroe County BOCC serves as the governing body for Monroe County, the southernmost county in Florida that encompasses the Florida Keys as well as portions of Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. The county maintains government offices in Key West, Marathon, and Key Largo to deliver local services to residents and businesses. In 2025 the county purchased a $7.5 million apartment complex in Key Largo intended for affordable housing, a project that remained vacant as of 2026. In 2026 the county relocated its office to the Gato Building at 1100 Simonton Street in Key West to improve operational efficiency and reduce expenses, and it closed offices in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. The county has pursued public programs such as Prune with Purpose, a tree-pruning educational brochure funded by a State of Florida grant, and it launched a mobile-exclusive Florida Keys Eco-Experience Trail pass through its Tourist Development Council in 2024.
