Montana Trout Unlimited is a conservation organization focused on protecting and restoring Montana’s coldwater fisheries and watersheds. Based in Missoula, Montana, the group operates within the conservation programs sector and works to conserve aquatic habitats, enhance water quality, and support riparian and stream health through collaborative efforts with other stakeholders. With a small team, the organization collaborates with local governments, stewardship councils, and partner groups to address issues such as streamflow, fish passage, and habitat restoration, serving partners and communities involved in watershed health and outdoor recreation. A notable recent development includes a collaborative effort announced in June 2026 with Black Butte Copper and the Meagher County Stewardship Council to improve riparian habitat and water quality along the Smith River. The organization participates in a broader network of conservation groups dedicated to sustaining Montana’s world-class coldwater fisheries for current and future generations.
