The Monterey Museum of Art, located in Monterey, California, concentrates on the evolving California artistic legacy, maintaining both historical holdings and a growing collection of contemporary works. Through its exhibitions and programs, it offers access to the visual arts for a broad audience, supporting an understanding of how California's art has developed over time. The organization operates with a relatively small staff, reflecting its position as a regional cultural institution. In November 2020, the museum launched Project T.H.R.I.V.E., a board-led initiative designed to teach hope, resilience, and inspiration through virtual education to thousands of schoolchildren in Monterey County. This effort underscores the museum's educational role beyond exhibitions by extending engagement with art to local students. This aligns with the institution's aim to foster appreciation of California's artistic legacy and to broaden engagement with the visual arts.
