The Motion Picture Editors Guild (MPEG) negotiates new collective bargaining agreements and enforces existing post-production contracts with employers in the entertainment industry. It helps members secure improved conditions, such as higher pay, better health insurance, safety considerations around turnaround time, and clearer credit assignments for artistic work. As Local 700 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), MPEG benefits from a network of about 375 affiliated locals, which strengthens its bargaining power and contributes to better contracts and benefits.

Based in Hollywood, California, MPEG operates within the broader IATSE framework, which includes more than 140,000 members across the United States, its territories, and Canada. IATSE's primary role is to negotiate contracts and protect workers' safety and well-being, and it also provides access to pensions and continuous healthcare. The pension and health plans tied to the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans and the IATSE National Benefit Funds are described as solvent and robust, reflecting sustained commitment from the union and its locals.
