The Museum of Life and Science sits in Durham, North Carolina, on an 84-acre campus that includes a science center, a butterfly conservatory among the world's largest, and outdoor exhibits housing rescued black bears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves. Its mission centers on lifelong learning, inviting people of all ages to view science as a way to understand themselves, their community, and the world. As part of the museums, historical sites, and zoos sector, the institution is recognized as one of North Carolina’s top attractions. In April 2026, the museum opened a permanent climate and sustainability exhibition, developed in collaboration with Code The Dream. The organization has also pursued collaborative initiatives, including a Community Science Initiative with Duke University that began in 2024 to explore connections among personal, ecological, and community resilience.
