My Place Teen Center (MPTC) is a free, year-round afterschool oasis for vulnerable youth ages 10–18 in Southern Maine. With locations in Westbrook and Biddeford, we provide safety, nourishment, trauma-informed support, and life-shaping opportunities for teens facing hunger, poverty, housing instability, and adverse childhood experiences. Since 1998, we have been a lifeline for young people as they navigate the hardest challenges of our time: • We combat poverty and food insecurity. • We fight to keep kids safe from the devastation of the opioid epidemic. • We create authentic communities – demonstrating how to be good citizens and neighbors. • We show teens a healthier way to live life – with accountability, personal responsibility, and self-care. What We Do We prepare teens for healthy, hopeful futures through four core commitments: • Meet basic needs: Nutritious meals served daily in a warm, stigma-free environment. • Create belonging: A loving, structured space where teens feel connected, valued, and supported. • Build real-world skills: Hands-on job training, leadership opportunities, STEAM learning, civic engagement, and practical life skills. • Strengthen emotional wellness: Trauma-informed mentoring, small-group conversations, and activities that build confidence, coping skills, and character. Our Impact Last year, we: • Served 908 youth • Provided 12,000 meals and 13,267 snacks • Delivered 1,140 specialized programs Decades of data show that our programs: • Engage youth in learning and boost school attendance • Support social and emotional development • Accelerate on-time graduation We do this at no cost to teens or families—powered entirely by the generosity of donors and volunteers. Join us. We welcome partnership from companies, foundations, and community leaders who believe in nourishing kids, strengthening families, and building a stronger, healthier Maine.
