The National Association of Wetland Managers, founded in 1983, is a small nonprofit membership organization based in Portland, Maine, that concentrates on wetlands across the United States. It builds capacity for state and tribal members and promotes protection and restoration of wetlands and related aquatic resources by applying scientific knowledge to management and policy decisions. NAWM seeks to help states develop and implement wetland regulatory and management programs, improve coordination across levels of government, and weave wetlands into broader water resources and watershed planning. It provides training and education for members and the general public while fostering conservation and restoration partnerships among states, tribes, local governments, and other partners. In 2022, NAWM partnered with the Society of Wetland Scientists to establish a mentorship initiative aimed at narrowing the gap between available professionals and the demand for wetland expertise.
