The National Association of Women Lawyers is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that works to advance women in the legal profession and to advocate for equality under the law. Founded in 1899, it supports leadership development, a collective voice, and resources for its members—who include attorneys and law students—from diverse backgrounds. Its activities encompass community building, substantive professional programming and events, and advocacy on issues such as voting rights, pay equity, racial and gender justice, reproductive justice, and the Equal Rights Amendment. It also supports amicus activity, conducts research on gender equity, and publishes the biannual Women Lawyers Journal and a member-focused podcast to share ideas and knowledge. In 2023, NAWL announced the launch of The Chanterelle Alliance for Feminist Law Reform, reflecting expanded collaborative efforts. NAWL emphasizes inclusivity, welcoming all attorneys and law students regardless of background.
