The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is an American English-language commercial broadcast television network and a flagship property of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast. The network is headquartered in the Comcast Building (formerly known as the GE Building) at Rockefeller Center in New York City, with additional major offices near Los Angeles at Universal City Plaza and in Chicago at the NBC Tower, and plans for a Philadelphia presence at the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center. NBC is one of the United States' Big Three television networks and is commonly referred to as the 'Peacock Network' due to its stylized peacock logo. Founded in 1926 by the Radio Corporation of America, NBC is the oldest major broadcast network in the United States; control has shifted over time, including a 1986 acquisition by General Electric and the formation of NBC Universal in 2003 via a Vivendi merger, with Comcast later acquiring a controlling interest in 2011 and the remaining stake in 2013. NBC operates thirteen owned-and-operated stations and nearly 200 affiliates in the United States and its territories, and maintains brand licensing agreements for international channels in South Korea and Germany.
