The National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector, based in National, Maryland, works to expand Montessori education within the public sector. Its work centers on equity, access, and sustainability, aiming to address systemic inequalities through child-centered developmental education. It builds a national network of teachers, coaches, leaders, policymakers, and researchers dedicated to improving public Montessori programs. NCMPS partners with communities and schools across the country to provide startup support, training, assessment, coaching, and a suite of practical tools and resources to establish and strengthen public Montessori programs. The organization works with dozens of schools each year, supporting hundreds of teachers and affecting tens of thousands of children in public Montessori settings across the United States. A notable leadership development in 2021 was the addition of Ebony Bridwell-Mitchell as a board member, who is an associate professor of education at Harvard University.
