Located in Madison, Wisconsin, the National Conference of Bar Examiners is a nonprofit organization that designs the bar examination and other licensing assessments used for bar admission. It serves admission authorities, courts, the legal education community, and candidates by providing assessment products, services, research, character investigations, and informational and educational resources and programs. The organization emphasizes fairness, integrity, and best practices to foster a competent, ethical, and diverse legal profession, and it pursues excellence through service. Development of the NextGen Bar Exam is underway, with a planned launch in 2026 and development that began in 2021. To support the new assessment, NCBE has partnered with Surpass Assessment to deliver the NextGen exam and with AccessLex Institute to develop study aids, reflecting collaboration with ecosystem stakeholders.
