The National Criminal Justice Association is a Washington, DC–based organization that represents state, tribal, and local governments on crime prevention and control. Its members span law enforcement, corrections, prosecution, defense, the courts, victim-witness services, and educational institutions, as well as federal, state, and local elected officials. Founded in 1971, it serves as a national voice for practitioners across the criminal and juvenile justice systems, promoting a balanced approach to public safety and the system's complex challenges.

Guided by a board of directors consisting of about 17 to 18 members, the NCJA informs Congress about the needs and accomplishments of state, tribal, and local justice systems and communicates these perspectives to federal executive and other public and private agencies at all levels. Through collaboration with practitioners and policymakers, it communicates state, tribal and local views on crime prevention and control to federal executive and other public and private agencies at all levels. A recent development is a November 2024 partnership with NACo Financial Services Corporation to develop resources and learning opportunities for counties to strengthen the administration of local criminal legal systems, with support from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
