NDAA is a professional association formed in 1950 by local prosecutors to amplify their perspectives on national policy matters affecting law enforcement and prosecution. It seeks to influence federal and national policies by engaging with the Department of Justice, members of Congress, and other national associations. The organization is governed by a board of directors drawn from state prosecuting associations, with officers selected annually; its purposes include upholding prosecutor integrity, improving administration of justice, promoting legal education and research, and providing knowledge and support to state and local prosecutors to safeguard public safety and rights. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, NDAA serves state and local prosecutors as its primary constituency, along with lawyers, law enforcement personnel, and others interested in justice administration. In 2024 it launched an online course to strengthen prosecutors' efforts against organized retail crime, a project conducted in partnership with the Retail Industry Leaders Association.
