The National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association is a national organization dedicated to combating health care fraud. Founded in 1985 by private health insurers and federal and state officials, it operates as a private-public partnership that brings together more than 100 private insurers with public-sector law enforcement and regulatory agencies responsible for fraud affecting both private payers and public programs. Based in Washington, DC, the organization occupies a role within the public policy arena, coordinating cross-sector efforts to address health care fraud. NHCAA established the Institute for Health Care Fraud Prevention in 2000 as a separately incorporated tax-exempt educational foundation that provides education and training for professionals working to combat health care fraud in both private and public sectors. Its mission is to protect the public by increasing awareness and improving detection, investigation, civil and criminal prosecution, and prevention of health care fraud. In 2020, Shift Technology joined NHCAA as a Platinum Member, signaling ongoing collaboration with technology-driven fraud detection and claims automation providers.
