The National Indian Health Board is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for the health interests of federally recognized tribes, providing advocacy, budget consultation support, and timely information to Tribal Governments. It supports tribes whether they operate their own health care delivery systems or receive care through the Indian Health Service, and emphasizes fair, culturally sensitive representation of tribal values across unity and diversity. The board is comprised of representatives elected by tribes in each of the twelve IHS Areas. Based in Washington, D.C., NIHB operates within the health policy space to coordinate national tribal health initiatives and information sharing. In early 2026, it announced a strategic planning process to guide the next fifty years of advocacy.
