The National Network for Safe Communities, launched in 2009 under the direction of David M. Kennedy and John Jay College President Jeremy Travis, is a public-safety initiative operated by John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Based in New York City, it supports cities in adopting evidence-based interventions to reduce violence, minimize arrests, strengthen communities, and improve relationships between law enforcement and residents. Its primary methods include the Group Violence Intervention and the Drug Market Intervention. Numerous American cities have adopted these strategies with notable results, and independent research has identified strong empirical evidence of impact. The network has broadened its scope to apply its approaches to contexts such as strategic prosecution and reconciliation between law enforcement and distressed communities. In late 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced a partnership with the National Network for Safe Communities.
