Mission: Serve as the premier educational resource for human resilience training and convene global conversations to assist the preparation for disruption, respond to trauma, and cultivate resilience. Brief History: The National Resilience Institute (NRI) began its work as a grassroots community resiliency project in 2011, in response to a cluster of teen suicides in a small Iowa town. It is directed by Dr. Mollie Marti, a social psychologist and resilience researcher who developed the evidence-based THRIVE Model of Resilience™ and several post-crisis resilience building tool kits. The first initiatives included post-crisis and mental health supports, as well as tools to foster community cultures of resilience building and thriving. Over time, the project responded in the areas of traumatic loss, post-disaster recovery, and community health improvement. Its deepened educational mission is reflected in sharing research and best practices with cross sector professional organizations and at state-wide conferences of school counselors, nurses, and mental health professionals. Target population: Those seeking evidence-based education, tools, and support to build more resilient communities and individuals, focusing on training educators, business leaders, health and mental health providers, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and parents. The National Resilience Institute is recognized nonprofit under IRS section 501(c)(3).
