NAVFAC functions as the Navy’s facilities engineering and expeditionary systems command, responsible for planning, building, and maintaining sustainable shore facilities. It also delivers environmental management, utilities, and other base services, and it acquires and manages expeditionary combat force systems and equipment. The command is led by Rear Admiral Dean Vanderley of the Civil Engineer Corps, who oversees a team of engineers, architects, contract specialists, and other professionals. NAVFAC serves the Navy and Marine Corps, Unified Commanders, and other Department of Defense agencies by delivering facilities engineering and acquisition services. It operates from Washington, D.C., and organizes its work around five business lines: Capital Improvements, Environmental, Expeditionary, Public Works, and Asset Management. The workforce includes military personnel, civilians, and contractors who collaborate to support base infrastructure and expeditionary capabilities.
