It emphasizes diversity and works toward equality, justice, and community-building across social lines. The organization is based in Middletown, Ohio, and traces its origins to 1927, when it was founded as the National Conference for Christians and Jews by leaders including Jane Addams and Charles Evans Hughes; the name evolved in the 1990s to reflect a broader mission. NCCJ engages with communities and public partners to address bias and social injustice, including collaborations with local government on anti-racism initiatives. In 2020 it launched a series of free online programs to maintain education and advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Operating within the non-profit sector, the organization concentrates on education, advocacy, and efforts to advance inclusion and rights for people from diverse backgrounds.
