Near West Theatre is a Cleveland, Ohio-based performing arts organization that involves youth and people of all ages from the Near West Side and beyond in large-scale musical productions. Productions are professionally led and supported by a diverse pool of volunteer actors, and the organization emphasizes a rigorous, transformative process. Through this work, participants share life experiences, discover their voices, and build connections with the production and with one another.

Founded in 1978, Near West Theatre operates as a community-centered theatre that aims to strengthen identity, passion, and purpose through transformational theatre arts experiences. It serves a broad local audience and participants, using theatre as a means of community engagement and personal development. In March 2026 the organization partnered with the May Dugan Center’s Seniors on the Move program to present Hearts Wide Open, a project created and performed by senior participants.
