Nelson Mandela University was previously known as Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University from 2005 to July 2017. Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University was a result of a merger between three former institutions being the University of Port Elizabeth, the Port Elizabeth Technikon and the PE Campus of Vista University.
