SMU is a higher education institution based in Medunsa, Gauteng, South Africa, with a focus on health sciences. It was established as a distinct university when the government promulgated the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in the Government Gazette on 16 May 2014, following a 2011 decision to separate the Medunsa Campus from the University of Limpopo.
