Nevada's Department of Education consists of the State Board, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, approximately 170 employees, and more than a dozen statutorily-created committees, councils, and commissions. The Superintendent is the executive head of the Department and works in partnership with the State Board on the development of regulations and policies governing P-12 public education. From the licensure of new educators,  to the adoption of academic content standards, to the reporting of school performance, and the administration of federal and state appropriations, the Department directly and indirectly impacts the achievement of the nearly half a million school-aged children and some 30,000 adults seeking high school equivalency education.
