New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization in the hospitals and health care sector, founded in 1964 and based at 310 East 67th Street, New York, NY 10065. It is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world and employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people. NYBC works with partner organizations CBC, IBR, BBD, and RIBC to collect about 4,000 blood products daily and serves more than 45 million people across the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), the Mid-Atlantic (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metro area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. The organization provides transfusion-related medical services including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute. The Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute has contributed to notable milestones, including the development of the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent-detergent plasma process that advances blood-purification technology worldwide.
