The New York Library Association (NYLA) is a state-level professional association serving the library community in New York. Its mission is to lead, educate, and advocate for the advancement of libraries across public, school, academic, and special libraries, as well as library trustees and supporters. Founded in 1890 with 43 members, NYLA has grown into a network of several thousand individuals and institutions, and it is noted as the first statewide librarians’ association in the United States. Based in Guilderland, New York, NYLA supports the broader library ecosystem through its programs and initiatives. In recent activity, it partnered with NYSUT to host Open Books, Open Minds at the Legislative Office Building, connecting legislators with librarians to discuss library issues.
