The New York Planning Federation is a not-for-profit organization in the architecture and planning sector, based in Albany and founded in 1937 to support municipal zoning and planning boards. It provides education that satisfies state-mandated board member training, offers publications on planning and zoning, and extends technical assistance to local boards, with membership open to individuals, municipalities, and professional firms and dues assessed by population. It positions itself as a resource for local governments and planning professionals through training, publications, and technical assistance. In 2022, the federation appointed Nancy W. Perry, Ph.D., as executive director, and it has continued to organize an annual conference in Cooperstown, including an awards luncheon at the Otesaga Hotel. Since 2021, it has also developed programs and grants to support comprehensive, sustainable, and equitable planning in communities.
