NextGen was formed in late 2019 as a subgroup of the Geophysical Society of Houston with the intent of promoting interaction and collaboration between early career geophysicists. Through networking, education, and a structured mentoring program within the GSH, a new generation of geophysicists will grow to reach its full potential! The Geophysical Society of Houston was formed in 1947 to promote the science and profession of geophysics, and to foster fellowship and cooperation among all persons interested in geophysics. Currently GSH forms the heart of a Houston-based geophysical community that gives opportunities to interact with colleagues throughout the profession. In the last 72 years the field of geophysics has grown tremendously! Advances in computing have provided the means for analyzing and interpreting more complex data sets than ever before. Our power as geophysicists is now truly being unleashed, the future is bright and full of possibility! Yet, statistics show that living in a modern, tech heavy world has resulted in a sharp decrease the comradery and simple face-to-face interaction with a diverse group of peers that former generations of geophysicists cherished and greatly benefited from. NextGen aims to change this by bringing early career geophysicists together for networking events, easygoing group activities, charity events, mentoring, exam prep, and more!
