NextWave Telecom Inc. (NTI) was formed in 1995 and was acquired by Verizon Wireless in 2005. Certain of NTI's spectrum assets were spun off prior to Verizon acquisition and on that basis NextWave Wireless Inc. (NWI) was formed in 2005 which was subsequently acquired by AT&T in 2013. NWI, along with its predecessors NTI and NextWave Broadband Inc., were wireless networks and products development companies. Over a period of twenty years, NextWave was engaged in chipset development for 3G and 4G products, mobile device and applications development, wireless infrastructure and BSS/OSS developments, wireless network design and deployments, licensed and unlicensed spectrum developments, and other advance wireless technology developments. NextWave was the first company in the world credited with the creation of the overall concept and the architecture of Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).

PacketVideo Inc. (www.pv.com) was a wholly-owned subsidiary of NWI which was sold to NTT DoCoMo in 2012. IPWireless Inc. was another wholly-owned subsidiary of NWI which was spun-off in 2008 and was acquired by General Dynamics (renamed General Dynamics Broadband) in 2012. The total acquisition price paid by Verizon Wireless, AT&T and other carriers and telecom vendors for NextWave Telecom and NextWave Wireless assets in separate transactions was in excess of $10 billion.
