NICET is a mid-sized professional credentialing body in the public-safety sector, based in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1961, it operates as an autonomous division of NSPE and independently evaluates knowledge and experience in engineering technology. The organization maintains a network of testing centers that provide convenient testing locations in or near major U.S. metropolitan areas. NICET certification validates the skills of engineering technicians and technologists, helping individuals progress into new assignments and take on additional responsibilities. For employers, employing NICET-certified staff can support eligibility for more contracts and help ensure compliance with industry and governmental requirements. In late 2025, NICET launched the Systems Software Integrator Certification Program.
