Nictiz is the Dutch national competence centre for the electronic exchange of health and care information, operating within the IT services and IT consulting sector. It develops and manages standards that ensure healthcare data can be recorded and exchanged unambiguously and it also collects and shares knowledge on electronic information exchange in healthcare, with attention to national as well as international developments. Based in The Hague, South Holland, the organization functions as an independent forum that connects healthcare institutions, umbrella organisations, IT suppliers, and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Its work supports better health outcomes by enabling reliable information exchange across care settings and by providing practical standards and solutions that can be implemented. In 2023, Nictiz launched the National Terminology Server to help software suppliers and data scientists maintain up-to-date international and national terminology content such as SNOMED and the Dutch Labcodeset.
