NMAC, or the National Minority AIDS Council, is a mid-sized nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., operating in the public policy space focused on addressing HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1987, it pursues its mission to end the HIV epidemic in America through programs that include public policy education, national and regional training conferences, a treatment and research program, and the provision of electronic materials and information via its website. In addition to program work, NMAC serves as an association of HIV/AIDS service organizations, delivering information to community-based organizations, hospitals, clinics, and other groups that assist individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2025, NMAC announced the retirement of longtime Executive Director Paul Kawata. The organization has also engaged in collaborative activities, such as partnerships to host figures at its conferences, including bringing Earvin 'Magic' Johnson to the United States Conference on HIV/AIDS, and coordinating with allied groups.
