North Light is a place where children learn and play in a safe, nurturing environment. Parents seek counsel and civic engagement. Neighbors mobilize to solve community problems. North Light’s mission is to empower people of all ages and abilities in our communities, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential as productive and responsible citizens through initiatives that support and enrich children, teens, and families.  

North Light serves over 3,000 people a year in Manayunk and surrounding neighborhoods. More than 700 volunteers work nearly 10,000 hours a year. The need for quality, affordable and convenient services for at-risk people is particularly acute during tough economic times. For over 80 years, North Light has addressed the needs of the poor via value-added and safe programs for children and youth and also by providing a safety net for their families and senior citizens.

Programs champion at-risk children, youth, and their families who are low-income, lack integrated support systems and face barriers accessing affordable, convenient and quality services, including a state licensed childcare facility with year-round school-age programs, arts and recreation, senior and emergency supports, tutoring, youth leadership training and workforce development, parenting education, and access to technology. Programs nourish personal empowerment, help reduce high-risk behaviors and positively impact youth, strengthen families and enrich our community
