North Shore Health is a rural health care facility based in Grand Marais, Minnesota, serving Cook County along the north shore of Lake Superior. It operates a 16-bed critical access hospital, a 37-bed skilled nursing facility, a home health agency, emergency ambulance service, and a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The facility began as a county-owned hospital in 1958 and was reorganized in 1990 under Minnesota law as a hospital district governed by a five-member elected board. As the region's only hospital and care center, it serves year-round residents, seasonal residents, and visitors to Cook County and the Boundary Waters area. In the rural health care market, the organization provides inpatient and rehabilitative care, home health, and emergency transportation across its service area. In June 2026 it announced a partnership with Orthopedic Associates to bring orthopedic care to Cook County.
