North Star Credit Union is a member‑owned financial services cooperative based in Cook, in northern Minnesota. It began in 1939 as Northern Farmer’s Co‑op Credit Union, and adopted the current name in 2015 to reflect a broader mission to support communities across the region. The credit union relocated to Main Street in 1996 and progressively broadened its field of membership, including Lake Country Power members. Through mergers since 2017, it has extended service to Nashwauk, Duluth, Brooks, and Virginia, while continuing to operate in its hometown. It offers a range of financial services to individuals and local organizations, with an emphasis on community sponsorships, scholarships, and financial education to support local development. In 2025 it launched ACH Early Pay, a feature that lets members access direct deposits up to two days earlier than scheduled.
