NV AHEC provides professional language services for hospitals, health and human services agencies, schools, and other organizations in the Washington DC Metro area. The organization maintains a large pool of interpreters and translates a range of highly technical documents to support clear communication in medical and public-service settings. To date, it has helped more than 15,000 community members communicate with health and human services professionals, trained over 4,500 medical and human services providers in cross-cultural communication, trained more than 1,000 interpreters, administered language proficiency tests to more than 1,200 bilingual personnel, and provided interpretation services for more than 125 hospitals, health and human services agencies, and schools. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, NV AHEC operates as a mid-sized language-services provider within the translation and localization industry, with a focus on healthcare and public-sector needs in the DC region. A concrete development in 2019 was a collaboration with Inova Health System to develop and deliver a cultural competency curriculum.
