Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES operates within New York's statewide system of Boards of Cooperative Educational Services, linking local schools to the State Education Department and coordinating educational and support services for public education agencies. It was among the first four BOCES established in 1948 under the NYS Education Law, and New York now operates 37 BOCES. The organization is based in New Hartford, New York, and serves its component districts through cooperative efforts within the state framework. The BOCES provides a broad range of services, including career and technical education, special and alternative education, administrative and financial services, human resources, program and professional development, information and technology support, and shared itinerant staff. Its primary customers are public education agencies and the component districts it serves, with the aim of aligning local programs with state requirements and delivering specialized services through a consolidated system. In 2024, OHM BOCES partnered with the Project Fibonacci Foundation to host an AI-focused professional development day for educators.
