Open Heart Kitchen is a Livermore-based nonprofit in the health and human services sector that has operated since 1995. It is the largest prepared meal provider in the Tri-Valley region of the San Francisco Bay Area, delivering nutritious meals free of charge to low-income families, seniors, unhoused individuals, and others facing food insecurity. Since its founding, OHK has served more than 7 million meals and now provides more than 400,000 meals annually, reflecting its ongoing role in improving access to healthy food as a human right.

It offers a suite of programs designed to support people at different stages of need: the Community Meal Program for free meals available for dine-in or to-go; the Senior Meal Program for free meals for people aged 60 and over in a social setting; Open Heart Refuge, an overnight shelter for adults; the Pop-Up Pantry, a free grocery distribution; and the Open Heart Food Bank, the region’s first food hub that supports the pantry and partner distribution efforts. The organization relies on staff, volunteers, and community partnerships to operate and to contribute to a more equitable and compassionate food system in the Tri-Valley. In May 2026, Open Heart Kitchen participated in California Nonprofits Day in Sacramento.
