Our mission is to report “Every dime. Online. In Real Time.” We work to capture and post online all disclosed spending at every level of the government across the nation — federal, state, and local.

To date, we have captured 5 billion government-spending records, including nearly all disclosed federal government spending since 2000; 49 of 50 state checkbooks; and 22 million public employee salary and pension records from 60,000 public bodies across America.

Our oversight reports and aggressive auditing of government checkbooks have resulted in public policy changes and helped illuminate rampant waste, fraud, and abuse within the government.

We believe that there needs to be a War on Waste in D.C. and have asked the President to commit to these three steps:

1. Post online all expenditures in the federal government.
2. Reduce White House spending by 10% and reduce agency spending by 5%.
3. Inform the public of your progress to combat waste on a monthly basis.

Adam Andrzejewski is the founder and CEO of OpenTheBooks.com.
