Oppenhuizen Law PLC specializes in the practice of Intellectual Property Law in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  My expertise is in obtaining patents and trademark registrations before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as counseling clients in other matters such as licensing, trade secret protection, and copyrights.  

I have a mechanical engineering degree from Kettering University (formerly GMI Engineering & Management Institute), as well as years of practical experience working as an engineer.  I am particularly proficient with obtaining patent protection for complex mechanical inventions, such as shock absorbers, fuel pumps, and transmissions.  I also have extensive experience in obtaining patent protection for consumer products, electro-mechanical devices, nuclear-based inventions, home appliances, and fluid/mechanical devices.

I pride myself on my ability to strategize through the patent application process, and I have been success in getting difficult patents issued for many clients.  Although I am a sole practitioner and still in my 30's, I have a developed a loyal base of clients who have benefited from my expertise in navigating through the bureaucratic procedures at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  

I also have an extensive network of foreign attorneys that I work with who I enlist to obtain foreign protection for my clients.
