Patkau Architects is a Vancouver-based architecture and design research practice established in 1978 by John and Patricia Patkau. The studio is led by four principals and supported by senior and associate staff, with a broader team of architects, designers, and administrative personnel. Its work spans art installations, furniture, houses, community buildings, and large urban projects, united by a goal to extract latent potential in place, culture, and people to inform architectural form that resonates with locale, history, and landscape; the firm also pursues material experimentation as a core driver of design. A design lab conducts full-scale testing in-house and in Vancouver-area workshops to translate ideas into tangible projects, and the practice has documented its material-driven research in the book Patkau Architects Material Operations (2017). In December 2025, photographs of Arbour House by Patkau Architects were named finalists for the Créateurs Design Awards, signaling ongoing recognition of their work.
