PAWS Chicago is one of the nation’s largest comprehensive No Kill animal welfare organizations, building innovative programs to end the killing of homeless pets. Each year, more than 27,000 homeless and at-risk cats and dogs pass through PAWS Chicago’s Medical Center. Known for taking on the most vulnerable cases, PAWS heals and rehabilitates more than 5,000 sick, injured, and homeless pets annually and connects them with loving families through its adoption program. PAWS Chicago also operates the city’s only high-volume spay/neuter clinic, providing more than 21,000 low- or no-cost spay/neuter surgeries last year alone, addressing pet overpopulation at its source and expanding access to care in under-resourced communities. Since its founding in 1997 — when more than 42,000 pets were killed in Chicago — PAWS Chicago has led an 88.8% reduction in homeless pet euthanasia in the city, transforming Chicago into a national model for No Kill success. PAWS Chicago has earned the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator every year since 2003, reflecting its longstanding commitment to transparency, impact, and financial stewardship.
